The Colony Hotel Ecology Group

The Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, Maine, is very serious about environmental preservation. The Ecology Group meets regularly to discuss eco-friendly improvements suggested by employees and hotel guests.
Recycling Chief, Director of Environmental Programs and Manager of Environmental Operations work together to research, develop, and implement environmental programs and operations.
The hotel continuously strives to reduce waste, recycle, conserve energy and water, and eliminate hazardous waste.
Some of the programs include use of non-toxic cleaning products, composting, and purchasing from local businesses. Guest room sheets are re-made into kitchen staff aprons, a clever innovation.
Rates at the Colony Hotel start at $360 in the summer, from $100 in the spring.
